Product Description

1. About Off-grid Solar Home Systems:

  • A basic off-grid system consists of a renewable energy source, which generates DC power, a battery bank that stores the DC power, and a “GTE” inverter. Our inverter is the intelligent center of a renewable energy system, seamlessly converting DC power to clean and reliable AC electricity for your needs.
  • When the sun is up, the solar panels generate power to charge batteries and provide electricity. At night, the “GTE” inverter/charger automatically runs your electrical equipment from your battery bank. The generator provides additional back-up battery charging capability for extended periods of cloudy weather. The “GTE” inverter/charger can automatically start the generator and initiate a recharge cycle when the battery bank is depleted, or a load is too large for the batteries to support independently.
  • “GTE” offers a complete range of power products to suit various budgets and electricity requirements. From complete power systems that come ready to install from our factory, to components that can be integrated into a system by one of our expert dealers, “GTE” has a system to meet your needs.

2. System Content:

  • PV module Array: A number of SOLAR panels connected in series and/or in parallel giving a DC output out of the incident irradiance. Orientation and tilt of these panels are important design parameters, as well as shading from surrounding obstructions.
  • SOLAR charging controller: control battery bank charge and discharge reasonable and safety.
  • Inverter: A power converter that “inverts” the DC power from the panels into AC power. The characteristics of the output signal should match the voltage, frequency and power quality limits in the supply network.
  • Battery bank: a single battery or multiple batteries connected together to create essentially one large battery of the required voltage and amp-hour capacity. In some ways the battery configuration and capacity are the most important electrical power decision to make, and a wise choice can help guarantee a steady supply of electrical power as well as a system that is simple to operate and maintain.
  • Loads: Stands for the network connected appliances in the building that are fed from the inverter, or, alternatively, from the grid.
  • DC Breaker Box: The DC Breaker Box includes a disconnect which will regulate the relationship between the battery bank and the inverter so it can be shut down at a moment's notice to replace, repair, or inspect the batteries safely.
  • Accessories: support bracket of solar module, power cable, switch, battery storage box.

3. Components and maintenance:

  • Photovoltaic power systems are exceptionally modular, which not only provides for easy transportation and rapid installation, but also enables easy expansion if power requirements increase. Solar power systems for stand-alone applications may comprise some or all of the following basic components:
  • PV generator and support structure (a single module or an array of several modules)
  • Power conditioning equipment (Optional - typically includes inverters and control and protection equipment) 
  • Power storage (Optional - usually provided by batteries)
  • Cables
  • A load (e.g. lights, pumps, refrigerators, radio, and television)
  • The solar PV generating equipment has no moving parts, which on the whole keeps maintenance requirements to a minimum and leads to long service lifetimes. The modules themselves are typically expected to operate for about twenty years, and should not require much more than the occasional cleaning to remove deposits of dirt. The majority of the other components - referred to as the Balance of Systems (BOS) - are generally serviceable for ten or more years if simple preventative maintenance measures are followed. Batteries, which are commonly required for most off-grid applications except water pumping, are currently the "weak-link" in the PV system and will typically need replacement every five years or so.
  • It is essential that storage batteries and indeed all system components are of an acceptable quality. Where PV systems have failed in the past for technical reasons, it has generally been due to bad system design and/or poor selection of BOS components, rather than to failure of a PV module. As a result, considerable international research efforts are presently directed towards improving performance of BOS components
